07/21/2004 12:32:54 Comment: This dam is Devil's Gate. It is used as flood control for the Arroyo Seco valley where the Rose Bowl is. Normally there is not enough water to make it necessary. But I guess it would be nice of the Rose Bowl didn't flood.

07/21/2004 12:30:00 Comment: On the way home I took a few more pictures. This is one of the 210 freeway as it goes over the small gourge near Devil's Gate. The Rose Bowl is in the next valley beyond the freeway.

07/21/2004 12:28:37 Comment: This is where I park. Note that I am not alone. This parking spot is popular because it is shaded. But a lot of people commute by bicycle here.

07/21/2004 12:26:29 Comment: This is roughly in the same spot as the memorial in the previous pictures. It is under a set of freeway overpasses between the 210 and 2 freeways in Los Angeles County. You might think that this section would be difficult for cyclists. But honestly it is one of the least stressful sections of my ride because there is no on street parking in this section and wide roads. Also it is about the easiest way to get into La Cañada from Glendale by bicycle so the car drivers are pretty used to cyclists.

07/21/2004 12:22:47 Comment: This is a memorial to someone who was probably killed here. I have been riding past this memorial for about 4 to 5 years that I can remember. This is the first time I remember a picture being there. But it is constantly being maintained by someone. Although I have never seen them.

07/21/2004 12:21:16 Comment: I cut through another park for the last part of the ride.

07/21/2004 12:19:11 Comment: Note the flag is half-mast. This is because we are still in 'mourning' for Reagan.

dscn2610From: Erik@137.78.15.62 Time:
07/21/2004 12:16:21 Comment: The same stream. But in another section. Note the handmade stone bridge that has been transformed into a makeshift barrier. In the next shot you will be able to see what it is like to stand between the two pillars.

07/21/2004 12:14:36 Comment: The same stream that I ride along side in the park a few images back extends through about two blocks of private homes to the north. This is a picture of that same stream near one of the homes.

07/21/2004 12:13:16 Comment: The only picture of the community garden as a whole that turned out. But it did ok. There is a small hill of the Verdugo Mountains in the background.

07/21/2004 12:12:18 Comment: Vivid purple flower growing from a vine in the community garden. But this is on the chainlink fence on the other side. Thought it's striking purple color was a good image.

07/21/2004 12:10:17 Comment: Still within the park. This park also has a community garden. Someone has a sunflower which is doing appreciably good.

07/21/2004 12:09:10 Comment: This park that I travel through is pretty big for Los Angeles standards. This is a stream I ride next to for a about a hundred yards (100m for the rest of the world).

07/21/2004 12:07:35 Comment: This is the skate structure that was just put in. It isn't very crowded on a weekday morning. But never the less I thought it was interesting.

07/21/2004 12:06:21 Comment: Now I cross back over the wash on a foot bridge. Note the forboding yellow 'no riding' sign to the left of the bridge. I never get off my bike to traverse this bridge.

06/19/2003 22:38:22 Comment: One morning we woke up a little late. The boys had beaten us awake (I had freed Andy to watch TV). When we had gotten out of bed we noticed that Sean had broken out the Mac n' Cheese left over from the night before and was eating it with his brother in front of the TV. We had to take a picture to capture the moment.
